UPDATED: Child airlifted after suffering burns to feet from hot coals

HARWICH – From Harwich Police: On Saturday, September 1st at 1040 PM, Harwich Police and Harwich Fire responded to Red River Beach for a report of an 11 year old child with burns to their feet.

Harwich Fire personnel immediately determined that the child needed to be transported to a Boston area hospital via a medical helicopter.  He was taken by a Harwich ambulance to Hyannis Airport and transferred to the helicopter.

The child was attending a family function and while extinguishing the fire he accidentally stepped on some burning embers.  The fire was properly permitted through the Harwich Park and Recreation Department.

The Harwich Police and Harwich Fire Departments wish the child and his family well as he recovers from his injuries.
