Disturbances, fail to stop highlight latest Wareham arrests

WAREHAMFrom Wareham Police: On Tuesday, March 26, at 6:30 a.m. Officers Kyle Gomes, Calib Larue, and Christopher Corner arrested Jose Silva Jr., 47, of Fitchburg, on 10th street in Onset. Officer Corner had developed information that Silva was staying at house on 10th street and had three warrants for his arrest. He was taken into custody without incident.

Byron Frates

Later at about 5:45 p.m. Byron Frates, 35, of Wareham, was arrested by Officers Lorenzo Grosso and Charles Pillsbury in the parking lot of a motel on Cranberry Highway as the result of a disturbance. Frates is charged with disturbing the peace.

Sherry Schifino

At 8:30 p.m. Officers Joseph Cardoza and Eric Machado arrested Sherry Schifino, 58, of Onset, at her home as the result of a warrant.

On Thursday morning at 8:30 a.m. Sgt. Paul Somers was on patrol in the area of Tobey Road and Main Street. While stopped at the stop sign on Main Street, Sgt. Somers observed a red dirt bike style motorcycle in his rear view mirror cross over the center line into oncoming traffic, then quickly cross in front of his cruiser going on to the shoulder of the road and then run through the stop sign. The motorcycle went under the South Wareham Bridge and stalled. Sgt. Somers pulled up to the motorcycle and was joined by Officer Christopher Smith. The male operator then was able to restart the motorcycle and tried to flee however he was grabbed by Officer Smith and placed under arrest. Markiese Tomkinson, 22, of West Wareham, was charged with the following,

1. Operating after suspension of driver’s license.
2. Negligent operation of a motor vehicle.
3. Fail to stop for police.
4. Fail to stop at stop sign.
5. Marked lanes violation.
6. Operating uninsured MV.

Later on Thursday, at about 11:00 p.m., Wareham Police responded to Captain Al’s Tiki Bar on Cranberry Highway for the report of a large fight. Upon arrival Officer James White attempted to place a male under arrest, however he refused to cooperate. After being brought to the ground the male tried to grab Officer White’s legs several times in an attempt to knock him over. Officer Michael Phinney and Bourne Police Officer Krystal Harrington arrived to assist, scuffled with the male, and finally utilized a Taser to subdue him. David Hanoian, 49, of Buzzards Bay is charged with, disorderly conduct, disturbing the peace, and resisting arrest.
