New details: Driver extricated after car vs tree in Sandwich

SANDWICH – Two people were injured, one seriously after a car struck a tree in Sandwich. it happened around 4:30 PM Tuesday on Quaker Meetinghouse Road between Oakcrest Cove and Route 130. Firefighters reportedly used the Jaws of Life to free one of the occupants. The most seriously injured victim was transported by ambulance to St. Luke’s Hospital trauma center in New Bedford. Sandwich Police are investigating the cause of the crash.

From Sandwich Police: On Tuesday at approximately 4:36 PM, Sandwich Police responded to the area of 34 Quaker Meetinghouse Road for a report of a single motor vehicle crash with entrapment. Upon arrival, officers found a Honda Sedan in the woods with significant damage to the operator side of the vehicle and airbag deployment. A passenger from the vehicle indicated that the operator was trapped inside.

The operator was extricated from the vehicle by members of the Sandwich Police Department. The Sandwich Fire Department also responded to the scene to render assistance. The operator of the vehicle, an 18-year-old male from Osterville, was transported to Saint Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford with significant non-life threatening injuries. The passenger, a 17-year-old male from Vermont, was transported to Cape Cod Hospital for evaluation.

Sandwich Police were also assisted by the Barnstable County Sheriff’s Department BCI. The crash remains under investigation.
