Updated: Harwich crash leaves one dead

HARWICH – A 23-year-old Yarmouth man was killed after the car he was driving slammed into a utility pole in Harwich shortly before 12:30 AM Saturday. The crash happened on Route 39 at Chatham Road.

Harwich Police have identified the victim as Dylan Coyne. Investigators said his car was traveling east on Route 39/Orleans Road, left the road and struck a utility pole and a tree.  Coyne was the only person in the car.

The crash knocked out business phones to Chatham Police. 911 service was not affected.

The cause of the crash is under investigation by the Harwich Police Department and the Cape Cod Regional Crash Reconstruction Team.

Route 39/Orleans Road is expected to be closed in the area of the crash for the majority of the day Saturday while utility crews make repairs and the crash investigation is conducted.

“Our thoughts are with the family of Mr. Coyne during this difficult time,” read a statement from Harwich Police.

Utility crews were on scene Saturday morning working to replace the broken pole. Route 39 in the area remained closed.

Further details were not immediately available.
