Inmate crews help recreation department “find” space

BOURNE
From Barnstable County Sheriff’s Office: The Bourne Recreation Cepartment has “found” badly needed space inside the Community Center in Buzzards Bay, thanks to an inmate work crew dispatched by Barnstable County Sheriff Jim Cummings.

The crew unbolted 60 lockers and several benches inside the center’s male and female locker rooms, then transported them to another town facility. They also tossed an accumulation of outdated and mostly bulky items into a dumpster.

“I don’t know what we’d have done without inmate help because this was one of those in between jobs, said Recreation Director Krissanne Caron. “Too small to attract a contractor at a reasonable price, but too big for our in-house staff to tackle. As always, the crew was unfailingly respectful, efficient, and quick about its work.”

Sheriff Cummings says he was “happy to help the recreation department and the town’s taxpayers, especially in a building that has become a valued asset to townspeople of all ages.”
