SANDWICH – Multiple injuries were reported in a serious crash in Sandwich just after 2 p.m. The crash happened on Quaker Meetinghouse Road at Service Road.
Sandwich Police say that a BMW Z3 operated by 50-year-old Kelly Socha of Plymouth was traveling north on Quaker Meetinghouse Road through the intersection with Service Road. A Toyota Corolla driven by 85-year-old Elizabeth Karandy of East Sandwich, was traveling west on Service Road and attempted to cross the intersection when she pulled in front of the other car.
Socha suffered serious injuries and was taken to South Shore Hospital trauma center in Weymouth because a MedFlight was too far away. Karandy was taken to Cape Cod Hospital and a passenger in her vehicle was taken to Beth Isreal Deaconess Hospital in Plymouth.
The crash is under investigation by Sandwich Police who reportedly cited Karandy for failing to yield at an intersection. Service Road was closed between exits 2 and 3 while the crash scene was worked. A West Barnstable ambulance also responded to the scene.
