Police raid at Yarmouth store nets drugs, cash, and illegal tobacco products

YARMOUTH – The Yarmouth Police Department reports that on Friday at approximately 10:00 a.m. members of the Yarmouth police and health departments executed a knock-and-announce search warrant at Cape Groceries located at 590 Route 28 in West Yarmouth.

The search warrant authorized officers to search for Spice, a controlled substance, and evidence related to the distribution of Spice. The search warrant was obtained based on probable cause developed during the investigation into the distribution of Spice by Abdul Rashid, 56, of West Yarmouth (photo top left). Upon executing the search warrant and entering the business, officers located Rashid inside the store.

The following items were seized during the search of the business:

  • Spice in 5gm packets various brands (465 packs with a street value of $9,300)
  • 53 round pills imprinted COR 136 (Adderall)
  • US Currency $ 4,021.00
  • Miscellaneous cards and paperwork
  • Interior store surveillance system
  • Narcotics baggies (2,500)
  • Crack pipe filters in baggies (42)

The Yarmouth Health Department seized hundreds of boxes of flavored tobacco products, which are banned in the town of Yarmouth, and will be scheduling a hearing as soon as possible to revoke the Cape Groceries tobacco sales license.

Subsequent to the execution of the search warrant, Rashid was transported to the Yarmouth Police Department where he were booked and processed. The investigation is active and ongoing and additional charges may be filed.

Rashid is currently being held at Yarmouth Police Department headquarters and will be scheduled for arraignment in the Barnstable District Court on Monday charged with possession of a class E drug and possession to distribute toxic vapor substance.
