Updated: Police search for missing Yarmouth man after truck found in Wellfleet

FlemingWELLFLEET – The Wellfleet Police Department reports that family members of a William Fleming reported to the Yarmouth Police Department that he had been missing since December 20, 2015. William Fleming (photo at right) was last known to be operating a blue 2014 Toyota pickup, with an unknown destination. Yarmouth police officers and detectives worked with the family and other law enforcement agencies in attempting to locate Mr. Fleming.

On December 28, 2015, members of the Wellfleet Police Department responded to a suspicious vehicle stuck on a dirt road in a secluded area of Lieutenant Island, Wellfleet. Officers quickly learned that the suspicious vehicle was the one sought by Yarmouth Police Department and operated by Mr. Fleming. Wellfleet police officers weren’t able to locate anyone in this secluded area. K9 officers from Barnstable and Yarmouth responded to assist in the search. After several hours the search was called off without locating anyone.

On December 29, Wellfleet police officers again conducted a search of the area in poor weather conditions without any luck. Yarmouth Police Officers worked with family members in trying to determine clues or leads as to why and where Mr. Fleming may be located in Wellfleet.

On Wednesday, December 30, multiple K9 officers from Barnstable, Yarmouth, and the Barnstable County Sheriff’s Office with Wellfleet police officers are scheduled to conduct a search of the area. This search will be supported by the Air Wing of the Massachusetts State Police.

Update: Yarmouth Police report that The search for William E. Fleming today in Wellfleet has concluded with negative results. The Wellfleet Police Department will continue the search tomorrow with trained fire and police personnel.
