HARWICH – Officials rushed to the marsh off North Road in the Bells Neck Conservation area after a report of a body in the marsh. Fearing the worse, a rescue boat was dispatched and the dive team alerted. When authorities arrived they determined the “body” was a lifelike mannequin as seen in the above photo.

Harwich Fire officials said: “Exactly how the mannequin came to be in the marsh is unknown, but the result of this “false” alarm was tying up valuable resources and the expenditure of overtime funds to conduct the recovery.

Ultimately the answer is this, the fire department will always respond to these type of incidents but what might appear to be a funny prank is a waste of assets and puts personnel at risk.”
