Sheriff’s association hosts 5K walk/run at jail to benefit Special Olympics

BOURNEFrom Barnstable County Sheriff’s Office: On Saturday, September 14th, the Barnstable County Deputy Sheriff’s Association is hosting the “Run Around the Jail” 5K Run/Walk at the Barnstable County Sheriff’s Office located at 6000 Sheriff’s Place (entrance to Joint Base Cape Cod) in Bourne (off Otis Rotary).

“We are very pleased to partner with Special Olympics of Massachusetts on this event. 100% of the registration fees are going to support the work of Special Olympics locally. This event is an extension of our involvement with the Special Olympics Torch Run of which the Sheriff’s Office has been a long standing participant and supporter” said Special Sheriff Jeff Perry.

The Corporate Sponsor for the event is Hyannis Honda. Jay Goodwin of Hyannis Honda commented, “I know this is a sponsorship that has built into it some great marketing opportunities, but the truth is I am supporting this because I just love the positive impact Special Olympics has on the individuals and families involved. I’ve seen lasting friendships develop from participation and the self-confidence created by feelings of accomplishment can be life changing.”

Registration will open at 7:00am. There will a half-mile Kids’ Run at 8:45am and the 5K Run/Walk will kick off at 9:00am. In addition to complimentary refreshments, there will be a raffle with dozens of prizes.

Following the conclusion of the 5K Run/Walk at 10:00am, there will be an awards ceremony to conclude the event.
