Suicidal man accused of assaulting police

YARMOUTHFrom Yarmouth Police: On Thursday, July 11, 2019 at 3 PM, Yarmouth Police Officers and Massachusetts State Troopers were sent to a residence on Alewife Circle in South Yarmouth at the request of a mother who was reporting her son was suicidal and had he had cut his arm with a knife and swallowed a battery.

Police Officers arrived at the residence and were confronted by a man who said, “I do not answer to you. Only God!”

The man threw a punch at a Police Officer that missed and quickly punched another Police Officer in the left side of his face as he moved in to restrain him.

The man was brought to the floor but remained combative while resisting and repeatedly screaming something in another language.

Police Officers were able to overcome the attack and place him in custody for a mental health evaluation and members of the Yarmouth Fire Department took the man by ambulance to Cape Cod Hospital for evaluation and assistance under a section 12.

The man was uninjured.

The Police Officer suffered a damaged eye area and shoulder injury.

The 22 year old man will be summonsed to court for the following charges:

• Assault
• Assault and Battery on a Police Officer
