Teenage girl struck by car, seriously injured in Falmouth

FALMOUTH – A teenage girl was reportedly struck by a car and seriously injured in Falmouth. It happened about 7 PM on Gifford Street near Amvets Avenue. The victim reportedly suffered head and leg injuries. A MedFlight helicopter was requested to Falmouth Hospital to transfer the victim to a trauma center. The crash is under investigation by Falmouth Police who released the following statement late Wednesday evening: On Wednesday at approximately 7:00 PM, the Falmouth Police Department, the Falmouth Fire Rescue Department and the Barnstable County Sheriff’s Office responded to 172 Gifford Street for a crash with injury. It involved an 18-year-old female from Foxborough, MA who was crossing the street in, or near, a crosswalk. She had a bicycle with her but it is still being determined whether she was riding the bike or whether she had dismounted. The vehicle involved was a Toyota Tundra and it was operated by a 67-year-old East Falmouth woman.

The cyclist/pedestrian was MedFlighted to a Boston area hospital with leg and head injuries. The vehicle operator was uninjured.

Gifford St., between Amvets Ave. and Dillingham Ave., remains closed to all vehicle traffic while officers continue the investigation.
