“Heroin: Cape Cod, USA”

It’s December 29th as I write this, I am dating this because last night, December 28th, I watched the HBO Documentary “Heroin: Cape Cod, USA”. It was an unabashed look at the horrible horrible horrible opiate problem right here on Cape.

I really didn’t mean to watch it, I actually didn’t know I had HBO. I had texted good night to Dawn and was about to shut the TV off when I saw a Facebook posting from Karen that it was on.

I watched.

Sad, awful, horrifying, tragic. And that is an understatement.

I grew up in the 80’s. I was in my early 20’s when the crack epidemic hit. It was awful. Friends hooked on it. Stealing to feed the habit. I remember TV’s and VCR’s missing from friends houses. Friends looking like zombies. Just sad.

It was NOTHING compared to this demon ruining lives and addicting our youth and adults not only here on Cape, we just got the spotlight. I spent many years working in Portsmouth, NH, it’s where my older kids call home. It’s bad there too. My son attending the funeral of his best friends mother.

We should not be burying our children, and our children should not be burying their parents.

I wish we had the answers. Some get hooked from other opiates, some for fun, many lost forever.

I pray for the families affected by this awful epidemic, and hope they can find their way back, we are all waiting with open arms.

  1. It was so sad to watch that. Some of my happiest memories are summers spent on the cape and in Hyannis. It seems that the real villains here are the Mexican cartels and their illegal alien dealers killing our young people. Yet, Mass people still are supporting illegal immigration and just ignore all the terrible consequences. Its time to wake up and tell your politicians that we have to REALLY secure the border, stop illegal immigration, and deport the illegal aliens in our country. As a lifelong Democrat and Mass native, I can’t believe that the only presidential candidate that makes sense to me is Donald Trump.
