The 16th annual State of Wellfleet Harbor Conference will be held at the Wellfleet Elementary School. The event is free and open to all.

This year’s conference touches on themes of concern for Wellfleet Harbor and its natural resources: climate change resiliency, how best to handle wastewater that threatens the health of local waterways, and what scientists are learning about Cape Cod wildlife.

Among the topics will be:

  • Wellfleet’s shellfish constable reviews her first year on the job and what lies ahead.
  • New and ongoing research on the flow and deposition of offshore sediments and the implications for bolstering shorelines from the effects of sea level rise and erosion.
  • What DNA analysis is revealing about the diet of seals in southeastern Massachusetts
  • The migration of Whimbrels, a shorebird that spends time in Wellfleet during fall

Sponsors of this year’s State of Wellfleet Harbor Conference include Cape Cod Five Cents Savings Bank, Center for Coastal Studies, Mid Cape Home Centers, the Town of Wellfleet, the Wellfleet Conservation Trust, Friends of the Herring River, and Mass Audubon’s Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary. Food donations are being made by Mac’s Seafood, the Wellfleet Box Lunch, Wellfleet Marketplace, The Wicked Oyster, and PB Boulangerie.
