Admire the Highland Lighthouse
Picture 3 of 5
While the structure has undergone several rebuilds and renovations, the original Highland Lighthouse was commissioned by George Washington in 1797. The current structure is 66 feet tall, and in 1996 was moved back 450 feet due to erosion. This spot offers a wonderful view as the sun goes down behind the lighthouse. Henry David Thoreau also visited and remarked on the lighthouse several times in the 1850's.
