What’s Happening This Week on the Cape!

It’s going to be a busy August here on the Cape.  From Dog Days at Hyannis Country Garden to Pops by the Sea and Centerville Old Home Week, there is certainly something for everyone!

Centerville Old Home Week, through Sunday

Old Home Week 5k Run/Walk: Thursday, 8/8, Covells Beach, 5:40. Registration is $25, $5 for kids. Annual Yard Sale: Sat, 8/10, 9 AM, Centerville Historical Museum.  Concert and Bonfire: Sat, 8/10, 7PM, Craigville Beach. The Moonlighters will perform. 38th Bayberry Quilt Show, Thurs, 8/8 – Sun, 8/11, Hyannis Resort & Conference Center

This year’s theme is “By The Sea.” Browse new and vintage quilts, vendors will exhibit a wide variety of fabrics, jewelry and craft items for sale and enjoy special activities for kids and others interested in the textile arts. Come and check out the beautiful bakery, meet the Chief, Yarmouth Police Officers, and welcome the owners and another new and thriving business to Yarmouth.

Shop & Sip Event, Fri, 8/9, 6 PM, Agway of Orleans

Agway of Cape Cod will transform their nursery into a Beer Garden for an after-hours shopping event.  Enjoy craft beer from Devil’s Purse Brewery and wine from First Crush Winery for $5 each, and all proceeds go to the Cape and Islands Police K-9 Relief Fund. Agway’s team of nursery experts will also be on hand to showcase and answer questions about nursery products. Friendly, well-socialized dogs are welcome to attend. The evening will also include door prizes.

Great Horned Owl Release, Fri, 8/9, 6:30 PM, Long Pasture Wildlife Sanctuary, Cummaquid

Join Mass Audubon naturalists and the Cape Wildlife Center veterinary team for a brief talk on the natural history of this species, as well as this individual’s path to recovery and back to the wild. Then  hike out onto Long Pasture’s trails and witness the animal’s return to the wild. Space is limited and preregistration is required. Massaudobon.org

Woods Hole Science Stroll, Sat, 8/10, 10 AM, Water Street

More than a dozen organizations will offer exhibits and demonstrations. Explore science and get an up-close view of ocean robots, animal touch tanks, and jump into some hands-on activities. Fun for the whole family! Free to attend. woodsholesciencestroll.org

9th Dog Days of Summer, Sat & Sun, 8/10 & 11, Hyannis Country Garden

Come wash your pup’s paws for a cause! Your $10 donation goes directly to the Cape & Islands Police K-9 Relief Fund. There’ll also be free talks regarding pet health and nutrition, a Blessing of the Pets on Sunday at 1:00, and we’ll be there on Saturday before 2 to announce and award the winners of our Cape’s Cutest Pet Contest! $1 Raffle Baskets, pet-related vendors, Nicolena’s Cheesecake Truck & More!
