HYANNIS – The town of Barnstable had to remove over 100 abandoned cars from the road during the height of this week’s historic blizzard, according to town manager Thomas Lynch.

Dozens of motorists abandoned their cars on Route 28 and Route 132 around the Airport Rotary when whiteout conditions and snow drifts blowing over from the nearby runways at Barnstable Municipal Airport made the roads impassable.

Those abandoned cars presented a danger as they blocked primary access roads to Cape Cod Hospital for a time.
