HYANNIS – Housing Assistance Corporation’s 10th Big-Fix-A-Thon is returning to Barnstable next weekend.
The event, which started in Barnstable in 2010, is returning with a focus on Hyannis and Centerville homeowners.
The kickoff will be held on Saturday, October 5 at 8:30am, and then volunteers will venture to 16 homes taking part in the event.
Over 350 volunteers will be taking part in this year’s Big Fix, with some who are skilled laborers from local companies.
The Big Fix brings hundreds of volunteers to the homes of seniors, veterans and the disabled in one Cape Cod town to make small home improvements and clean up yards.
Volunteers also raise funds to support HAC’s year-round programs, including operating four family shelters, homeless outreach, homelessness prevention, energy assistance, conducting financial literacy workshops, and housing development.
Since 2010, the Big Fix has been held in Sandwich, Dennis, Mashpee, Yarmouth, Bourne, Brewster, Falmouth and Harwich.
Next year’s Big Fix will be held in Orleans, which is the first time the event has been held there.
