15th Annual Seaside Le Mans Race Returns to Mashpee September 12

Seaside LemansMASHPEE – Over 10,000 spectators are expected to return to Mashpee Commons to watch the 15th annual Seaside Le Mans race on September 12.

Congressman William Keating will be the Grand Marshal for the race, which starts off with opening ceremonies at noon.

DeWitt Davenport, founder of Seaside Le Mans said the event is very popular on the Cape.

“It brings our people together, there’s a tremendous amount of pride,” said Davenport.

“From five o’clock in the morning when we start building the track, all the way through to the end of the day, the amount of smiles on people’s faces, it’s all good.”

With kart sponsorships and matching funds, this year’s race will raise $600,000, bringing the total funds raised to more than $5 million over the past 15 years, which has benefitted the Cape Cod community.

Beneficiaries of the race this year are Calmer Choice, Katelynn’s Closet, Cape Cod Maritime Museum, Independence House and Cape Cod Healthcare.

The free family event features local companies racing through the streets of Mashpee Commons in Formula One race karts on a quarter mile outdoor track.

“It’s a four hour endurance race and we have up to 20 teams that participate,” said Beth Patkoske with The Davenport Companies.

“Each team has six drivers who alternate throughout the four hour race, and after four hours, we determine who’s made the most laps in that time and they’re crowned the winner.”
