2 More Judges Sworn in to Serve on State’s Highest Court

BOSTON (AP) — Two more judges are officially on the job at Massachusetts’ highest court.

Superior Court judges Kimberly Budd and David Lowy were sworn in by Republican Gov. Charlie Baker during a private ceremony on Wednesday. They fill two vacancies on the seven-member Supreme Judicial Court.

Frank Gaziano was sworn in last week to fill a third vacancy.

All three were nominated by Baker and later confirmed unanimously by the Governor’s Council.

They take the seats formerly held by retiring justices Robert Cordy, Fernande Duffly and Francis Spina.

Two other sitting justices, Margot Botsford and Geraldine Hines, will reach the mandatory retirement age of 70 before the end of Baker’s first term as governor.

That gives Baker the unusual opportunity to appoint a majority of the court during his first term.
