Animal Rescue League Reminds Public to Watch for Stray Cats and Kittens

BOSTON – As the weather continues to warm throughout May, the Animal Rescue League (ARL) of Boston is reminding the public of the rise of stray cats and kittens this time of year.

ARL reminds the public that these animals deserve to live their lives in loving homes, not on the streets.

The animals can be found in a variety of places — under decks, porches, in woodpiles, window wells, anywhere where they can find relative quiet. When spotting stray cats or kittens, immediately call your local Animal Control Officer for assistance. ARL contracts with the towns of Eastham, Orleans, Brewster, Harwich and Dennis as a holding facility for stray, lost or injured animals.

These contracts mitigate the cost of building and maintaining animal facilities for these towns, and allows these animals to quickly get the help they need and get on the fast track for adoption.

Additionally, if you are a cat or dog owner and your animal gives birth to a litter of unwanted kittens or puppies, ARL has you covered.

Through the Healthy Moms, Happy Litters program, ARL provides FREE spay and neuter services for the mother and father animals, who will be returned to the owner after surgery.

ARL will also waive surrender fees for the litter of puppies or kittens. Once eligible, the litter will by spayed/neutered, and placed up for adoption.
