Annual Hyannis Father’s Day Car Show Celebrates 25th Year with Concert

HYANNIS – As the annual Hyannis Father’s Day Car Show hits the quarter-century mark this year, organizers of the event have added a new and entertaining twist.

The Greater Hyannis Chamber of Commerce announced the lineup for the first “25 Hours of Music” concert to be held on the Hyannis Town Green on June 15 and June 16 to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the Annual Father’s Day Car Show.

“Well, this is the 25th anniversary of the Father’s Day Car Show, so we thought it was a good time to expand the event a little bit and encourage people to spend a weekend in Hyannis,” said Todd DeLuca, President of Greater Hyannis Chamber of Commerce.

“We came up with it because it was an idea we saw from another group who was celebrating the summer solstice, and they did 24 hours of music prior to the summer solstice. We’re not exectly the summer solstice (event) but we thought, ‘Boy, 25 hours of music and 25 years of holding the Hyannis Car Show might be fun.’”

The concert will span 25 hours, from 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 15, through 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 16. Five bands are booked for Saturday, which will be headlined by The Ayla Brown Band at 7:30 p.m.

“We have nine bands planned to perform. On Saturday, we have five bands and that event will be headlined by Ayla Brown, who is of course the daughter of Senator Brown, and the following day we have four bands that will line up with Soggy Po’ Boys from Dover, New Hampshire. The rest of the bands are local bands that we’ll be showcasing,” Deluca said.

The Town Green will be set up for families to enjoy the concert and a picnic. Food will be sold on the Green by the Greater Hyannis Chamber of Commerce and other community organizations but revelers are welcome to bring picnics from home. The Chamber will also be operating a beer garden next to the stage.

In addition to the two day picnic, concert and the car show on Sunday, the Chamber has teamed up with the Key Club members of Sturgis East High School to produce a two mile walk/run that kicks off events on Friday, June 14th. The Key Club members have selected Camp Sunshine as the beneficiary for this event.
