Army Corps Considers Lighthouse Inn Beach Re-Nourishment Plan

WEST DENNIS – The Army Corps of Engineers’ New England District is seeking public comment on a proposal to modify a jetty system and add beach nourishment in West Dennis.

The plan, put forward by the Lighthouse Inn, would reconfigure the outermost portions of an existing jetty system, including three rock groins, while also allowing crews temporary construction to the beach.

The beach re-nourishment effort calls for the placement of 7,000 cubic yards of additional sand over a 69,000-square-foot area. A portion of the sand fill will serve “double duty” and will be placed for temporary construction access, then allowed to migrate naturally post construction as part of the beach nourishment.

While the proposed project will impact 1.65 acres of Essential Fish Habitat, however, the Corps has made a preliminary determination that the site-specific adverse effect will not be substantial.

Comment on the proposal will be accepted through November 24th.
