Barnstable Considers Spending $30,000 to Look Into Potential New Pier

BARNSTABLE – The Barnstable Council will be weighing a proposal to design and construct a new municipal pier in the Three Bays Area of Osterville at their meeting this week.

The $30,000 proposal would be funded through the town’s General Fund Reserves and cover the evaluation, design, and permitting of the project.

Supporters say that the new pier will allow emergency responders a place to moor their vessels in the area, without requiring the lease of private space.

Additionally, the town claims that their marine services, dredge maintenance, aquaculture, and water management programs will make use of the structure as well. Not included in the price however, is the cost to actually build the pier.

The Barnstable Town Council will take up the proposal at their meeting this Thursday.
