Barnstable High School Receives Entrepreneurial Program Grant

HYANNIS – The Barnstable Charitable Foundation has announced a new partnership with Barnstable High School.

The initiative will provide innovative entrepreneurial education opportunities for students to allow them to make informed decisions about starting a business on Cape Cod.

The Foundation will provide a total of $85,500 in grant funding over four years to provide Network for Teaching Entrepreneurism program training and curriculum.

The grant funding will allow the school to teach Entrepreneurship Essentials, Entrepreneurship 1, Entrepreneurship 2 and a summer academy.

Each credit course can be taken by up to 75 students.

The Greater Hyannis Chamber of Commerce, which founded the Barnstable Charitable Foundation, will provide guest speakers, who will be local successful entrepreneurs.

“Our desire is to have our younger population remain here, living and working, and entrepreneurism seems to be a very successful way to help retain them on the Cape,” said Kasey Boyle, Chair of the Barnstable Charitable Foundation.

“We want to give middle and high school age students the background they need for entrepreneurship and to provide a foundation of what they can do to succeed.”

Kristen Harmon, the assistant superintendent of Barnstable Public Schools, said she is excited to begin the partnership.

“It provides Barnstable Public Schools a chance to connect our students with all the opportunities on the Cape,” Harmon said. “This is the starting point for where we are going with entrepreneurship, and it will really have an incredible impact on our students.”
