Barnstable Police to Award Citizen Carnegie Medal This Month

BARNSTABLE – The Barnstable Police Department is announcing that, on behalf of the Carnegie Hero Fund Commission, it will be presenting Barnstable citizen David Duncan with the Carnegie Medal.

The department will also be recognizing several officers for their roles during the same incident.

Duncan is being awarded the medal for a selfless, heroic act in which he disarmed a knife wielding attacker as the suspect prepared to assault an unaware Barnstable Police Officer who was involved in a struggle with another suspect.

The ceremony will take place on Wednesday, March 13 at 10:00 a.m. at the Barnstable Police Department.

Established on April 15, 1904, by Andrew Carnegie, the Carnegie Hero Fund Commission was created to recognize outstanding acts of selfless heroism performed in the United States and Canada.

The Commission awards the Carnegie Medal to those who risk their lives to an extraordinary degree while saving or attempting to save the lives of others.

This ceremony is open to the public and members of the media. All inquiries can be directed to Lt. Mark Cabral at [email protected].
