BOURNE – Bourne Selectman Jared MacDonald will kickoff his campaign for state senate tonight with an event at Mezza Luna in Buzzards Bay.
MacDonald, who is running as a Republican, is vying for the Plymouth and Barnstable District seat left vacant last month by Vinny deMacedo.
MacDonald currently works as a self-employed electrician and is a former Bourne police officer, who was shot in the line of duty in 2015.
MacDonald hopes the district and its constituents have a bigger say and a seat at the table with Massachusetts Department of Transportation and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers officials.
The field for the empty seat is getting crowded as MacDonald will join Bourne attorney Jay McMahon on the Republican side.
There are also five Democrats who have announced runs for the seat, including Falmouth Selectman and Assembly of Delegates representative Susan Moran; Plymouth Selectman John Mahoney, commercial lobster fisherman Jack Stanton of Sandwich; Thomas Moakley, of West Falmouth, who is on the staff of the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office; and Becky Coletta, a Pembroke lawyer and chairwoman of the town’s planning board.
The event runs from 5:30-7:30pm.
