COTUIT – As the Cahoon Museum of American Art prepares for the 2018 it taking a look back at 2017.
The museum in Cotuit presented six exhibitions in the renovated and expanded space.
One of the exhibits, “Master of the Maritime: the Art of James E. Buttersworth,” received national attention in both “American Arts Review” and “American Fine Art Magazine.”
The museum also offered several educational programs, workshops and tours which helped to set a new visitor attendance record.
Two new events were also added to the museum’s signature Brush Off.
Cruise with the Cahoon toured Nantucket Sound on the Island Queen and the Garden Tour provided special access to Rushy Marsh Farm in Cotuit.
The 2018 season kicks off on March 21 with the exhibition “A Swedish Folk Tale.”
Martha Cahoon combined her Swedish folk art heritage with early American and Pennsylvania-German design to create unique expressions in decorative art and painted furniture.
The exhibition runs through June 3.
