Cape and Islands Voters Face Several Contested Races

KA_MA Mass Primary Election Voting Orleans_2016 winter_030116_013HYANNIS – Cape and Islands voters have several local races to decide on during today’s election.

In the Cape and Islands State Senate District, Republican Anthony Schiavi and Democrat Julian Cyr are running for the open seat. Senator Dan Wolf is not running for re-election.

For 2nd Barnstable State Representative, Democrat Aaron Kanzer and Republican Will Crocker are looking to replace Brian Mannal who is retiring from politics.

Incumbent Republican Sheriff Jim Cummings faces a challenge from Democrat Randy Azzato. 3rd Barnstable Republican State Representative David Vieira faces Democrat challenger Matt Patrick.

For Barnstable County Commissioner, Democrats Mary Pat Flynn and Mark Forest and Republicans Linda Bond and Ron Beaty are running for two available seats.

In the open Barnstable/Dukes/Nantucket State Representative Seat, Democrat Dylan Fernandes and Independent Tobias Glidden are in the running.

Second Plymouth State Representative Susan Williams-Gifford is facing a challenge from Democrat Sarah Hewins.

Incumbents who are not facing challengers on the ballot this year include 1st Barnstable Republican State Representative Tim Whelan, Democratic 4th Barnstable State Representative Sarah Peake, 5th Barnstable State Representative Randy Hunt and Plymouth-Barnstable State Senator Vinny deMacedo.

For the 9th Congressional District, Democrat incumbent William Keating faces a challenge from Republican Mark Alliegro.

Cape and Islands voters will also decide on 4 statewide ballot questions, the Presidential election and a few Barnstable County Assembly of Delegates seats.
