BARNSTABLE – The Cape Cod Commission has released the draft of its updated 2025 Regional Policy Plan, opening a window for public comment through Monday, August 25.
The plan is informed by public outreach and feedback, including a resident survey, as well as focus group study, and includes recommendations to ensure a vibrant and sustainable cape.
Recommendations include a coordinated regional open space plan, development of groundwater models, coastal resilience and flood mitigation, and zoning changes to foster increased housing.
“Since the last Regional Policy Plan update, Cape Cod has faced longstanding and unprecedented challenges,” said Kristy Senatori, Executive Director of the Cape Cod Commission.
“At the same time,” she continued, “the region has made significant progress advancing infrastructure investments, completing key regional initiatives, and strengthening our capacity to plan for the future.“
“The decisions we make now,” she said, “will shape the region for decades. This draft RPP reflects a commitment to protecting our natural and cultural resources, supporting resilient and well-planned development and redevelopment, and ensuring a high quality of life for all who live, work, and visit Cape Cod.”
The public is encouraged to attend a group of public meetings to learn more and offer feedback on July 30 and 31.
A pair of meetings will be held on Wednesday, July 30, the first of which will be held at the Association of Realtors at 22 Mid Tech Drive in West Yarmouth at 1 pm, and the second being held at the Falmouth Public Library at 300 Main Street.
Two more meetings will follow on Thursday with a virtual meeting on zoom at 10 am and a meeting at the Eastham Public Library at 5 pm.
