BOSTON – Cape and Island’s Senator Julian Cyr wants to improve government efficiency in Massachusetts.

On Monday, Cyr testified in support of a bill which encourages state government to use behavioral science.

His hope is that the state follows the federal government’s use of behavioral research in improving areas including public policy.

“With the field of behavioral economics receiving international recognition in recent weeks, it’s time to apply those same lessons to policymaking here in Massachusetts,” Cyr said.

The field’s founder was awarded the Noble memorial Prize in economic science on October 9th.

He has advanced the notion that better understanding of human rationality and decision making will help government’s improve efficiency.

Cyr also said that passage of the bill will save taxpayer dollars.
