BREWSTER – The founder of Cape Cod Cares For Our Troops was honored with an award from the state this week.

Michelle DeSilva was named an “Unsung Heroine” by the Massachusetts Commission on the Status of Women (MCSW) at a ceremony Wednesday in the Great Hall at the State House.

The Brewster resident joined with over 100 women across the Commonwealth to receive the honor.

The award is presented annually by the MCSW to recognize women across the state who have made a difference in their communities, businesses, or volunteer endeavors.

DeSilva was nominated by State Representative Tim Whelan for her work supporting military troops through her organization.

“It is an honor to join with DeSilva as she is recognized by the MCSW for the years of selfless effort supporting the women and men who make great sacrifices in defense of our nation,” said Whelan.

“Cape Cod does indeed care for our troops and because of the work of Michelle DeSilva and her family through Cape Cod Cares for the Troops, tens of thousands of brave service members and their families from across the nation know the depth of this gratitude and compassion.”
