Falmouth and YMCA Reach Agreement for After School Programming, Registration Underway

FALMOUTH – A formal agreement has been made for the YMCA Cape Cod to provide before- and after-school programming for Falmouth Public Schools this year.

The school district had been running its Kids Club for many years but decided to look for an external organization to provide high-quality programming while lowering costs.

The YMCA before- and after-school programs support academics with homework support and help children grow socially and emotionally, along with providing physical activity and healthy snacks.

“We look at nurturing the potential of every child and teen and helping to support them in their growth and development in the community,” said Stacie Peugh, the CEO of YMCA Cape Cod.

Peugh said the Falmouth district had been providing great out-of-school time experiences for families over the years.

“But it’s a challenge for school districts to manage both during the day and before- and after-school programs,” she said.

Peugh said the organization provides many options for activities for student participants to expand their learning.

“We try to involve families and children in those choices of enrichment activities once homework is done,” she said.

Student registration for the programs are underway and parents and guardians can apply on an ongoing basis.

Registration events are being held Friday at North Falmouth Elementary School from 7 to 10 a.m. and 3 to 7 p.m., and at Teaticket Elementary School from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Weekend registration events will be held at North Falmouth Congregational Church from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday and 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday.

Parents can also register children at Mullen Hall Elementary School on August 31 during school open house.

The YMCA has been providing before- and after-school programming both nationally and locally in the 1980s.
