Falmouth Board of Health Meets on Needle Exchange

FALMOUTH – The Falmouth Board of Health will once again take up the idea of a needle exchange in town after putting a hold on prior plans after neighbors of the proposed location of the exchange objected.

Last fall, the board sent a letter of support to the Massachusetts Department of Public Health in support of the needle exchange, which was proposed by the Aids Support Group of Cape Cod.

Originally planned at 178 East Falmouth Highway, the plan was scrapped and the group is looking for another location.

Opponents said the location was unsuitable considering it was located near St. Anthony’s Church, home of several youth programs.

Supporters say the exchange is needed to prevent the spread of disease and prevent the improper disposal of needles.

The Board of Health will consider the proposal at a meeting tonight at 6:30 at the Falmouth Public Library.
