Falmouth Selectman Resigns, Citing Health Issues

Falmouth Town Hall 1FALMOUTH – Falmouth selectman Ralph Herbst has resigned just one month into his term, citing health and personal reasons for his departure from the board.

In a letter to the Town Clerk, the Board of Selectmen, and Falmouth residents, Herbst said he recently underwent unexpected surgery and will need an additional procedure that will require a lengthy recovery.

Selectman can choose to call a special election or can wait until annual town election next May to fill the seat. A special election can also be called if 200 signatures are collected from residents via a petition.

Last month, Herbst was one of two candidates elected to the board, along with Megan English Braga. Herbst defeated Marc Finneran by 215 votes. William Dynan and Sheila Travers also ran.
