Family Donates Seven Pond Front Acres

Jacob Brown and his family have donated 7.2 acres of land on Hinckleys Pond in Harwich.

Brown started with 5 acres twenty years ago which he purchased from his neighbor.

Over time he added acreage and, to qualify for a tax credit of up to $75,000, has now donated the parcel to the compact of Cape Cod Conservation Trusts, who will soon transfer ownership to the Harwich Conservation Trust.

The land is magnificent, with a woodland landscape that rambles down to the pond.

It has a magnificent array of trees and plant life including swamp red maples, white and red oak, sheep laurel and bushes bearing blueberries and black cherries.

There are osprey, screech and great horned owls, and even a resident bald eagle.

Other wild visitors include deer, foxes, otters and fishers.

The area sits near the 900 acre Punkhorn Parklands Conservation owned by the town of Brewster.

Across the pond is a large stretch of permanently protected shoreline.

The public can now enjoy this wild treasure that the Browns and their neighbors have for decades.
