PLYMOUTH – A public forum will be held next week to discuss the decommissioning process of the Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station in Plymouth.
The plant’s owner, Entergy, said it plans to shut down the facility by the summer of 2019, but under federal, law the decommissioning does not have to start for 60 years after the closure.
A panel of experts will address concerns including the process to move spent fuel rods into dry cask storage, security and emergency plans to ensure public safety.
The panel includes Arnie Gunderson, the chief engineer for Fairwinds Associates, Tim Judson, the executive director of Nuclear Information and Resource Service, Deb Katz, the executive director of the Citizens Awareness Network, Marvin Resnikoff, a senior associate for Radioactive Waste Management Associates, and Raymond Shadis, a consultant with New England Coalition.
The forum, which is being hosted by the Pilgrim Coaltion, will be held on Wednesday, March 23 at 7 p.m. at the Plymouth Library.
The Pilgrim Coaltion is a non-partisan network of citizens and organizations dedicated to raising awareness of, and reducing, significant risks to public safety, health and the environment stemming from the operation of the Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station.
