greater hyannis civic association logoHYANNIS – Residents of Hyannis, Hyannisport and West Hyannisport will gather at Kalmus Beach Wednesday for an evening of food, fun and conversation about the village.

The Greater Hyannis Civic Association, which works to enhance the quality of life in Hyannis, will hold a Summer Social for association members, prospective members and other residents to discuss projects planned for the year.

“We’re going to continue to work, as a member of the group that’s working with the homeless and addicted, hoping to create a better atmosphere in downtown Hyannis,” said Deb Krau, the president of the Greater Hyannis Civic Association. “We’re really looking forward to sharing with you all the great ways you can help our village.”

Krau said there is a wide variety of different areas that she hopes will interest the residents of Hyannis.

The association also has oversight groups that look into the issue of parking, they have a group working on problem properties and they also will be focusing on creating neighborhoods.

“It’s with the strength of our neighborhoods that we get a very strong village and we’d like to get people who are interested in creating a little neighborhood in their area. We have tools to help them,” she said.

The association is also forming an oversight committee for the fire station building to watch how all those dollars are being spent.

Members who attend the social and joining members will receive a free cup of clam chowder from Wimpy’s and the Kalmus snack bar will be open.

The event also includes a small-scale car show and live acoustic guitar music.

The event will be held from 5:30 to 7 p.m.
