Gun Violence Seminar Planned at Community College

WEST BARNSTABLE  – Cape Cod Community College is hosting an upcoming forum on ending gun violence featuring four speakers who have survived mass shooting. The event, “What Comes After Thoughts and Prayers,” Will spotlight the four following their presentations, the floor will be opened to a general discussion.

The panelists are: Lisa Hamp, survivor of the 2007 Virginia Tech shooting, Joshua Fernandez, he is a New Bedford Police Sergeant and survivor/first responder of the 2006 Foxy Lady Nightclub shooting in Fairhaven, Todd McGee a retired State Trooper and expert in behavioral observation and threat prevention and Dwight Duncan, he is a Professor of Constitutional Law at U-Mass Dartmouth.

To begin the discussion, the survivors will talk about how those events changed their lives.

Following their stories McGhee will discuss the characteristics of a shooter and how we may be more proactive in identifying potential threats before they happen. Finally Professor Duncan will address the past, present and future of the second amendment.

The forum is free and will be held Wednesday, November 28th from 2-4 at The Tilden Arts Center at Four C’s.
