Harwich Conservation Trust to Host Herring Count Kick-Off Meeting

HARWICH – The Harwich Conservation Trust will hold a herring count kick-off Meeting later this month for interested volunteers.

The meeting is Tuesday, March 19 from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the Harwich Community Center.

The event will include a presentation about how volunteers contribute to the scientific understanding of herring stocks on Cape Cod.

A review of count logistics and general instructions for new volunteers will also be provided.

Following the presentation, the trust will schedule new volunteers and confirm previous shifts for returning counters.

New counters will also have the opportunity to have an experienced counter walk them through the process on-site for their first count.

The Herring Count starts on or about April 1 and runs through June 1.

Anyone who would like to volunteer but cannot attend the kick-off meeting can contact Tyler Maikath at [email protected] or by calling the Harwich Conservation Trust office at 508-432-3997.
