Harwich to Look into Economic Development in Harwich Center

HARWICH – Selectmen in Harwich have agreed to re-establish a committee to consider economic development in historic Harwich Village.

The Harwich Center Initiative Ad Hoc Committee is being revived more than two decades after it was originally formed to investigate streetscape, development, and housing options with the aim of developing a vision for the future of the village.

Selectmen Larry Ballantine informed the board that the renewed interest in the village comes as a new 4,000 square-foot convenience store moves into one of Harwich Center’s major Main Street parcels.

“There is enthusiasm,” he told his colleagues on the board,

“I would like to go after it while the interest is high.”

Selectmen indicated that the committee will include seven members, ideally with experience in large-scale revitalization efforts, working together with Harwich Town Officials.
