Heroes in Transition Awards Two Scholarships

MASHPEE – Heroes in Transition has awarded two $2,500 scholarships to graduating seniors Emily Franks and Christian Cotton.

The scholarship is given to graduating students on Cape Cod who have a parent or guardian serving or has served in the military and is planning to attend a two or four year college.

“Both Emily and Christian are well-rounded, gifted students who represent the best of Cape Cod and the ideals we foster at Heroes In Transition,” Said Heroes in Transition Executive Director Nicole Spencer.

Emily, a standout scholar and athlete at Mashpee High School will be attending the University of New Hampshire in the fall and study human development and family studies.

Her father, Todd, has served in the U.S. Air Force for over 33 years.

Christian is set to graduate from St. John Paul II High School in Hyannis.

After receiving his diploma he will head down to boot camp in Parris Island, South Carolina as part of enlisting in the U.S. Marine Corps.

In the fall, Christian will attend Assumption College in Worcester where he plans on double majoring in either business management, international business or political science.

His father, John, served eight years in the U.S. Navy and Navy Reserves.

Since 2009 Heroes in Transition has given out scholarships to graduating seniors on Cape Cod.
