Heroes In Transition Increases its Offerings for Veterans this Summer

MASHPEE – Heroes In Transition is increasing its offerings for veterans, military spouses, and military families throughout the region this summer.

The free events include a fishing charter out of Falmouth Harbor with a picnic lunch, a Red Sox game, and a day at the Cape Cod Inflatable Park in West Yarmouth.

“We continue to see an increased demand for outings that allow service members, veterans, and their families to connect with one another in a social setting,” said HIT Executive Director Nicole Spencer.

“It’s a way for them to form bonds with others who have shared similar experiences in the military, often these bonds serve as a crucial support structure for those still making the transition to civilian life.”

For the seventh straight year, HIT will be hosting its Families in Transition Week, a 5-day camp that allows military families to experience the healing qualities of horses.

“We really feel that over the summer time here on Cape Cod there are so many veterans and military families that we can assist so we thought about having something strictly for the families,” continued Spencer.

Participants will have the chance to groom, ride, and connect with the animals at Camp Lyndon in Sandwich.

“Every summer we do this week long program and basically its a few hours every day during the week and the families get a chance to bond with the horses and they learn more about the horse.”

“It’s just a great way for us to bring the families together.”

Afterwards, they will enjoy a free meal as well as group activities for both parents and their children.

Due to the popularity of the program, HIT is adding a third week for the first ever and will be held on the following days: Monday July 8th to Friday July 12th, Monday July 29th to Friday August 2nd, and Monday August 12th to Friday August 15th.

Along with these outings, HIT organizes regular monthly events for service members, veterans, and their spouses.

On a bimonthly basis, military couples gather for an activity that will include sailing in August.

Every other month, HIT organizes an event for veterans along with a separate one for spouses.

HIT is also inviting veterans, service members, and military families to the Cotuit Kettleers game against the Harwich Mariners on Friday, July 12th for the annual Heroes In The Park.

In partnership with The Cooperative Bank of Cape Cod and the Kettleers, HIT will be honoring veterans and active military personnel, and providing them with a free meal.

Those interested in attending any of these events, contact HIT as soon as possible as many of the events are almost at capacity.

Founded in 2009, Heroes in Transition is a Mashpee-based nonprofit that provides assistance and support to veterans, service members, and military families that is not readily available through other organizations.
