NANTUCKET – The Nantucket Cottage Hospital Thrift Shop has successfully completed its $500,000 pledge to Nantucket Cottage Hospital’s capital campaign for the island’s new hospital.
“They made this pledge back in 2014 and each year when they make their annual gift to the hospital, they have set aside an amount of money towards that pledge.” said hospital spokesman Jason Graziadei.
“In addition, the rest of the funds that they raise each year go towards the purchase of medical equipment, and other capital items that the hospital needs,” said Graziadei.
The new Nantucket Cottage Hospital is currently under construction on Prospect Street.
“This is huge progress for us towards our goal of $120 million for the new hospital, as well as additional staff housing, which is what the capital campaign will fund,” said Graziadei.
With a small staff and a stalwart team of dedicated volunteers, the Hospital Thrift Shop sells merchandise donated by island residents and visitors – anything from books to furniture to artwork – from late May through mid-October, and operates as a separate non-profit organization.
This year marks the shop’s 89th season in business serving all residents and visitors of Nantucket.
