HARWICH – The Homeless Prevention Council, in conjunction with the Harwich Council on Aging, is holding an information session about housing and community resources for senior citizens on the Lower and Outer Cape, called “Let’s Talk About Tomorrow”.
The event will be held at the Harwich Council on Aging, located within the Harwich Community Center, on Wednesday from 2-3 PM.
The purpose of “Let’s Talk about Tomorrow” is to meet with seniors at risk of housing instability before they reach a crisis point.
“Let’s Talk About Tomorrow” will bring increasing awareness to issues around senior housing on the Lower Cape, encourage attendees to work with their case managers to apply as soon as possible, and connect attendees to the many resources available to them in the community.
Increasing rates of senior poverty nationwide are affecting the availability of resources that many seniors rely on, such as senior housing.
The organization says that the national crisis is impacting Barnstable County and specifically the Lower Cape, where wait-times for senior housing are often three to five years long.
At the Homeless Prevention Council, they’re seeing a steady yearly increase in the number of seniors coming to their agency in need.
The Homeless Prevention Council is an independent, non-profit 501 (c)(3) organization.
Founded in 1991, its mission is to provide case management solutions to support self-sufficiency and stability in our community of Lower Cape Cod.
