HYANNIS- The 72nd Annual Hyannis Yacht Club Regatta is underway this weekend.
Around 240 boats are expected to participate in multiple events in both Lewis Bay and Nantucket Sound with skippers from around the world including Hong Kong, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Quebec and the Virgin Islands.
“It is a significant sailing event in our region, recognized by sailors of all ages for a wonderful sailing venue combined with a competitive racing environment,” said Vice Commodore Greg Egan.
The public may catch views of the boats and races from several local beaches, including Sea Street Beach, Ocean St. Beach and Kalmus Beach.
The boats leaving to race in Nantucket Sound each day can be viewed from the Hyannis Ship Channel breakwater at the end of Kalmus Beach.
Boats are expected to leave in the area of Veteran’s Park Beach at 9:45 a.m. and return at the close of racing each day around 4 p.m.
