Jack Stanton Ends Campaign for Open State Senate Seat

SANDWICH – Jack Stanton has ended his candidacy for the vacant Plymouth/Barnstable State Senate seat.

Stanton, who is a Sandwich Democrat and commercial lobster fisherman, said in a statement that he suspended his campaign due to a lack of resources and polling data that does not show a path to winning the democratic primary.

“Ending this campaign is an incredibly difficult decision for me to make as my base has been incredibly supportive, and my passion for serving the community that raised me is as strong as ever,” Stanton said.

“Cape Cod and the South Shore have big challenges to tackle today and for the next generation.”

Stanton said his decision to end his campaign was the right choice and was made in fairness to his supporters, donors and voters in the district.

Stanton will continue to work on policies that affect the community, including climate change, housing, and transportation.

“I plan to be a part of the solution to these problems in whatever way I can and be there for my community,” he said.

The state Senate seat is vacant after republican Vinny deMacedo left in November 2019 to take a position with Bridgewater State University.

The five Democrats seeking the seat are Rebecca Coletta, John Mahoney, Thomas Moakley, Susan Moran and Stephen Michael Palmer. Jesse Brown and James McMahon are republicans seeking to finish the current term.

The special election primary is March 3.
