Bourne School Superintendent Heading to Charlton-Dudley District

BOURNE – At the end of the school year, Superintendent of the Bourne Public Schools Steven Lamarche will be moving on to a new phase of his career.

Lamarche announced on Wednesday that he had accepted an offer for the superintendent position at the Dudley-Charlton Regional School District. The district’s school committee had selected Lamarche, one of four finalists for the job, following a Tuesday night vote.

“I didn’t just jump at Dudley-Charlton, it had to be a community with a lot of strength as in comparison to Bourne – a community where you roll up your sleeves and get to work,” Lamarche explained.

“Not only is the academic area extremely important, but also performing arts and athletics. It was really kind of like a sister district in so many regards to me, so that’s what led me to the application process. It’s the only position I’ve applied for to seek out in Massachusetts as a superintendent.”

The Bourne School Committee said Lamarche had notified them that he was applying for the job and further established a contingency plan to find a replacement. The committee plans to unveil a timetable and more detailed plans for the superintendent search.

The committee also expressed what they say is a challenge presented by Lamarche’s departure to find a replacement with the same qualifications and experience.

“Opportunity sometimes comes at inopportune times,” Lamarche said.

“The opportunity for this position at Dudley-Charlton came up at a time where I would really love to see everything through with what worked on with the new school in Bourne, but it was really a family-based decision.”

Pending contract negotiations, Lamarche will begin his work at Dudley-Charlton on July 1.

“Probably the greatest number one success I’ve had is living in and becoming a part of the Bourne community. It’s something I will cherish for the rest of my life,” said Lamarche.

“There’s a family flavor here too but I think probably my biggest accomplishment is amercing myself within the Bourne educational and community-wide area.”
