Lecture to Highlight Key Relationship Between Marine Scientists and Fishermen

PROVINCETOWN – The Center for Coastal Studies will be hosting the latest presenter in their lecture series on Wednesday.

Owen Nichols will present some case studies from here on Cape Cod and from around the world, exploring how fishermen and scientists are working together to keep fisheries sustainable while also confronting environmental change.

These collaborations build relationships between the fishing and scientific communities as well as providing valuable information for management of sustainable fisheries.

Owen is Director of Marine Fisheries at the Center for Coastal Studies. His primary research interests include distributional ecology, fisheries oceanography, marine mammal and fishery interactions, and ecosystem-based fishery management. He also serves as a guest investigator at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution.

This presentation, “Charting a Course to Mutual Trust and Understanding: Fishermen and Scientists Working Together for Sustainable Fisheries,” is both free and open to the public. It will take place on Wednesday at Napi’s Restaurant in Provincetown beginning at 7 pm.
