Local Restaurants to Battle for Best ‘Stuffie’ at HAC Fundraiser

Quahog ChallengeHYANNIS – The Cape Cod Quahog Challenge is back for a second year.

Several Cape and Islands restaurants will be competing at Trader Ed’s on Hyannis Harbor on Sunday to see which makes the best stuffed quahog, or “stuffie.”

The event benefits Housing Assistance Corporation, a non-profit that provides housing services to individuals and families.

“We help over 5,000 people a year on the Cape,” said Laura Reckford, HAC’s director of community relations and fundraising. “So we are doing a lot of things really focusing in the whole realm of housing on the Cape.”

HAC’s services include developing affordable housing, providing classes for first-time home buyers and operating area homeless shelters.

Tickets to the Quahog Challenge can be purchased in advance online for $20 at www.quahogchallenge.org or at the door for $25. Children 10 and under can be admitted for $5.

Reckford said attendees will not be disappointed.

“For people coming to the event, what’s great is you pay one price at the door and you basically get all the different “stuffies” you can handle there because you are trying 8 or 9 different recipes,” Reckford said.

Also included with admission is on vote for the best guahog, a free sample of Narragansett Beer, for individuals 21 and over, and Polar Cave Ice Cream.

The event will also include live entertainment with Four Guys on Cape Cod, a 50/50 raffle and a silent auction. Commemorative t-shirts will also be available for purchase.

Arnold’s Lobster and Clam Bar in Eastham will be back to defend its title from the inaugural event last year. Buddha Belly Kitchen in Dennis, Portside Tavern in Hyannis, Red Face Jack’s Sports Pub in West Yarmouth, Spanky’s Clam Shack in Hyannis, Wicked ‘n Wood in Pocassett and Trader Ed’s are some of the restaurants competing for the 2016 crown.

The Quahog Challenge will run from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday.
